Hammett, PA…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will return for the second straight season to Eriez Speedway this Sunday night, August 24 for event #8 on the 2008 slate. Action will get underway at 6 p.m. at Bobby Rohrer’s speed plant located just outside of Erie, Pennsylvania.
“We’re looking forward to making a return trip to Eriez,” stated Northeast Region Co-Director Vicki Emig. “The Rohrers were gracious enough to book an event as weekly member Tri-City Speedway is not running Sunday night and this worked out well for everyone. A lot of the northern racers were happy we were able to secure a date at Eriez. The fans should see an even better show than last year as the quality of the series has really risen this season.”
The 25-lap feature will pay $1,200 to-win, $150 to-start. Drivers will draw pills to determine the heat race lineups and redraw for the first 12 starting spots of the feature.
Max Blair continues to lead the Northeast Touring Series points thanks to his opening win at McKean County Raceway on May 24 and a second when the Series returned on July 5. The 18-year-old Centerville, Pa. driver also had a third at Mercer Raceway Park on May 26, a fourth at Expo Speedway show on July 10, and an eighth at Raceway 7 on July 25. Blair’s two worst finishes are a pair of 12ths at Dog Hollow Speedway and Raceway 7.
In seven Touring events, there has yet to be a repeat winner as a total of 68 different drivers have competed with an average car count of 31 per event. Will Sunday night make eight winners in eight races? Defending race winner Dick Barton is still searching for his first Touring win of the season. Other winners this season are Frank Guidace (Mercer), Alan Dellinger (Dog Hollow), John Lacki (Raceway 7), Kyle Drum (McKean), Bobby Powell (Expo), and Mike Pegher, Jr. (Raceway 7).
“The simple fact the we have not had a repeat winner this year speaks volumes for the quality and competitiveness of the Series,” expressed Northeast Region Co-Director Mike Leone. “You have drivers like Dick Barton, Tommy Snyder, Jay Watson, Dennis Lunger, Steve Hollabaugh, and Rusty Moore that are right there knocking on the door. We expect a strong field of cars as Eriez is a good location to attract teams from all directions.”
